| Trees absorb carbon dioxide as they grow, removing this harmful greenhouse gas from the atmosphere and helping protect the global climate. Unfortunately at a time when worldwide emissions are at their highest, record numbers of forests, and the ecosystems they support, are vanishing.
- Your gift of $10,000 will reforest 10 acres with mixed conifer or hardwood trees. Fast-growing pines and firs will absorb carbon faster, while California’s classic oaks will take longer to grow but will restore one of the state’s most recognized features. Returning the land to forests will improve wildlife habitat, reduce land degradation, and will help clean the air by sequestering carbon dioxide and offsetting polluting emissions. In just 20 years, 10 acres of reforested conifer trees will remove about 1,900 tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, the amount generated by 377cars during one year. The same area of oak reforestation would have a more modest sequestration benefit but would restore oak woodlands, an important native California habitat.
