In West Africa, impoverished farmers struggle to earn income, a problem compounded by poor agricultural practices and technologies. Children are called to work at an early age to help reduce the financial strain and help their families earn enough to survive. They are forced to leave school and often take on responsibilities that threaten their well-being and safety. Children miss the opportunity for an education or to learn the skills that will need as adults to attain higher paying jobs perpetuating the cycle of poverty.
- Your gift will provide an educational scholarship for a child and a small loan to help offset the cost of his or her labor for the parent or guardian. The child will be enrolled in a formal school. The loan will be used to improve the family enterprise and will be paid back to the school to cover tuition costs over a three-year period.
