The transition to a market economy has created opportunities and difficult economic conditions in former Soviet countries. In Moldova, employment prospects for women with few job skills are very limited, especially in rural areas. As a result, women and girls in need of income are tempted by promises of exciting jobs overseas. In reality, these offers can result in virtual slavery, sometimes for sexual purposes, other times for menial jobs. Women and girls need the opportunity to earn enough to support themselves and remain in their country.
- Your gift will provide trafficking awareness, job skills, or entrepreneurial training for an at-risk Moldovan woman or girl. She will learn how to recognize trafficking schemes and prepare to enter the workforce. She will learn new job skills, how to find employment, and interview successfully. Entrepreneurial training is offered to those who want to start a small business. Both tracks offer mentoring services to build confidence and self reliance.
