Charlotte Young is Winrock’s Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Risk and Compliance Officer. As CRCO she reports to both the CEO and the Board of Directors and manages Winrock’s Compliance and Internal Audit programs. A practicing attorney since 1986, Charlotte has strong compliance, investigation, nonprofit governance, and risk assessment and management skills. Most recently, Charlotte worked for ten years at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) as the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, the Privacy Officer, and the Youth Safety Officer. She managed enterprise wide risk assessments, the organization’s policies and procedures, compliance training, compliance investigations and Hotline issues, and the ethics program. Prior to TNC, Charlotte was a practicing attorney for 20 years. She started her legal career specializing in litigation and government contracts at the law firm of McKenna, Conner & Cuneo, in the Washington, D.C. area, followed by an in-house position as Assistant General Counsel of Unisys Corporation, where she managed commercial litigation and also focused on fraud and bribery prevention and investigation. Charlotte is a graduate of The University of Virginia and attended law school at The George Washington School of Law. She has been an active member of several nonprofit boards, including Freshfarm Markets, Planned Parenthood of DC, and New Endeavors by Women. She was the 2020 Nonprofit Compliance Officer of the Year for the C3 Women in Compliance Awards. She has taught Legal Writing and Research at two Washington, D.C. law schools. She is a frequent speaker and presenter on ethics and compliance topics.
