WISIONS features Winrock International’s solar water pumping project in Nepal
Winrock International’s former Knowledge Exchange for Solar Water Pumping activity in Nepal, which helped to demonstrate the potential of solar irrigation to small farmers, was featured in an article published in WISIONS of sustainability, an initiative of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy.
The project worked with the Nepal Agricultural Cooperative Central Federation to reach farmers across rural municipalities and agriculture cooperatives with information about solar irrigation through knowledge exchange and live demonstrations. By developing a network of cooperatives, rural municipalities and suppliers, the project aimed to accelerate the commercial market for solar irrigation.
“In recent years, Solar Water Pumping (SWP) technologies have enabled Nepalese farmers to produce surplus crops and improve their livelihoods,” the Wisions piece states. The project “aimed to facilitate knowledge exchanges within smallholder agricultural cooperatives about how to provide solar water pumping systems for their members.”
