Training Ethiopian Youth in Cloud Engineering

Project Title: Nedamco Ethiopia Cloud Initiative

Winrock is partnering with the social impact enterprise Nedamco Ethiopia Cloud Initiative (NECI) to train interested Ethiopian youth to address the world’s growing need for cloud specialist services. Cloud services enable organizations and businesses to migrate information and services including databases and software to cloud-based computer servers accessed via the internet. Global demand is increasing for trained cloud specialists to help companies analyze their needs and select appropriate technologies to deploy, optimize and protect applications and data storage. NECI is the impact arm of Nedamco Capital, a family-owned international investment firm based in The Netherlands.

Winrock and NECI are seeking Ethiopians interested in participating in the project, which includes training in basic cloud engineering skills with the goal of obtaining future employment with Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms. The 12-week virtual training program, “AWS re/Start,” offers full-time skills development aimed at preparing unemployed or underemployed Ethiopians for entry-level cloud engineering positions with AWS. In the program, groups of learners supported by accredited trainers will complete scenario-based learning, hands-on labs, and coursework to prepare for roles including cloud operations, site reliability, infrastructure support, and business support functions. NECI will accept 25 learners to participate in the program. For more information about the program please refer to our FAQ. To apply, click here to submit an application.
