Winrock’s scientists have developed comprehensive guidance and a series of tools for estimating terrestrial carbon stocks of any land cover type. This includes guidelines on the sampling design, field measurement methods, and carbon stock calculation methods. These methods have been tested across the world over the past twenty years and have been adopted worldwide. These manuals and associated calculation tools are available to the public for free via the links below. Any questions about these methods or tools can be directed to: carbonservices@winrock.org

Guidelines and tools developed under the USAID LEAF program: A series of tools were developed under Winrock’s USAID LEAF program to provide technical guidance and support in the implementation of climate change mitigation activities. They include a number of modules as part of a Technical Guidance Series on forest monitoring, mainstreaming guidelines and a checklist for integration of gender into climate change activities, and tools to guide carbon stock assessments. These can be found here: http://www.leafasia.org/tools Download the full LEAF Climate Change Curriculum: https://www.leafasia.org/curriculum |
Regional Climate Change Curriculum developed under the USAID LEAF program: As part of its efforts to prepare a future cadre of climate change professionals, USAID LEAF and the US Forest Service worked with 14 universities and training institutes from the Asia-Pacific to develop an innovative climate change curriculum for the Asia-Pacific region. The curriculum is a free resource of teaching materials for university professors, lecturers, teachers and climate change training experts. The modules offers an excellent introduction of climate concepts, social and environmental issues, land use planning, and carbon measurement. The curriculum materials include presentations, lecturer notes and supporting materials and can be found here: http://www.leafasia.org/curriculum |
