Providing economic opportunity, food security and a safe environment for future generations requires leadership at all levels of society. Winrock has long made it a top priority to equip emerging leaders, particularly women and girls, with the skills, opportunities and networks of support they need to succeed in their communities and beyond.
China’s remarkable economic transformation has lifted millions of its citizens out of poverty and catapulted the nation into what promises to be a hopeful and optimistic 21st century. Preparing the country to be agriculturally self-sufficient was the goal of Winrock’s Leading Economics and Agricultural Development into the 21st Century (Lead21) project. Lead21 connected 40 Chinese Ph.D. candidates with U.S.-based professors, who offered instruction in areas important to China’s ongoing success, particularly a better understanding of how free market agricultural economies work. Many of those students are now sharing their knowledge as professors at a host of Chinese universities.
