ACR celebrates 30 years of carbon market leadership
This year, ACR at Winrock International celebrates 30 years of impact and leadership in the evolution of carbon markets. To mark the milestone, ACR released a short video reflecting on its 30-year journey and the work that lies ahead; watch the video here.
Since its founding, ACR has helped shape the development of market-based approaches to climate action. From establishing the world’s first private greenhouse gas crediting program and issuing the world’s first serialized carbon credits to advancing high-integrity carbon markets today, ACR has been at the forefront every step of the way.
As noted in the video: “ACR carries forward Winthrop Rockefeller’s beliefs in pragmatic idealism and ethical governance.”
For three decades, ACR’s work has focused on pragmatic, science-based solutions that help scale climate action and deliver real-world results.
That work has included science-based crediting for activities that deliver results at scale, including forest conservation and restoration, geologic carbon storage and super pollutant mitigation. The period also saw the launch of the Architecture for REDD+ Transactions, or ART — ACR’s sister program — creating a pathway for tropical forest countries to participate in global carbon markets for protecting and restoring forests at scale.
“Today, ART participants span Africa, Asia and the Americas, amounting to roughly one-quarter of the world’s tropical forests, more than 1 billion acres.”
ACR has issued credits totaling nearly 375 million tons of carbon dioxide, reflecting the scale and reach of its work. As global demand for effective climate solutions continues to grow, ACR remains focused on strengthening the standards, infrastructure and trust needed to support high-integrity carbon markets and ambitious climate action.
Please join us in wishing ACR a happy 30th anniversary!
