Nedamco Ethiopia Cloud Initiative Q&A

Q: WHAT IS AWS RE/START AND HOW DOES IT RELATE TO NECI?

A: AWS re/Start is a 12-week, full-time skills development program that prepares unemployed or underemployed Ethiopians for entry-level careers in cloud engineering. AWS Amazon Web Services is a branch of Amazon.com, Inc. that provides cloud computing services globally; it is the world’s largest provider of such services, with 30% market share. Each group of AWS re/Start learners, supported by professional mentors and accredited trainers, completes real-world, scenario-based learning, hands-on labs, and coursework. NECI is working with AWS in Ethiopia to offer the AWS re/Start program virtually. AWS re/Start prepares learners for entry-level cloud employment in roles including  cloud operations, site reliability, infrastructure support, and business support functions.

Q: WHAT IS NECI?

A: NEDAMCO Ethiopia Cloud Initiative is a social impact venture intended to train and employ Ethiopian youth in cloud engineering to meet current and future demands for digital cloud services.

Q: WHERE IS THE TRAINING LOCATED?

A: This set of trainings will take place virtually for Ethiopian learners.

Q: WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY?

A: Selection criteria will focus on applicants’ aptitude for learning and performance. Basic English and basic Information Technology skills are required and will be assessed during the application process.

Q: WHAT KIND OF COMMITMENT MUST I MAKE?

A: Trainees must commit to be a part of the 12-week training program, and must participate full-time in the training program.

Q: HOW CAN I JOIN THE TRAINING PROGRAM IF I NEED TO SUPPORT MYSELF?

A: All trainees will be provided with a stipend to cover basic expenses.

Q: HOW IS TRAINING CONDUCTED?

A: Learners will be offered live, on-line training, access to curricula, coaching, mentoring, exams, projects, study guides and other materials. Students will be provided with unlimited internet access while they are studying.

Q: DO I NEED PREVIOUS CLOUD SKILLS?
