Accurate carbon accounting is crucial for assessing the impact of large-scale reforestation and agroforestry projects on GHG emissions and removals. It allows for proper quantification of climate benefits and helps organizations in setting and achieving science-based targets. Winrock International’s technical advisory and project validation services increase the rigor, consistency and evidence of climate programs and projects to substantiate GHG emission reductions and removal projects, prepare organizations for third-party assurance or audits, and ensure alignment with leading standards and guidance.
Winrock is proud to have partnered with the Earthworm Foundation in developing high quality carbon insets from large-scale reforestation and agroforestry projects in cocoa and palm supply chains in Peru and Mexico. Winrock developed technical guidance, including GHG quantification methodology selection, sampling methods, and detailed procedures, to facilitate alignment with leading standards.
Earthworm Foundation is a non-profit organization that works to positively impact the relationship between people and nature. The organization operates worldwide and works with its members and partners to make value chains an engine of prosperity for communities and ecosystems.
Winrock has strong experience and capabilities in project validation of large-scale reforestation and agroforestry projects (removals and on-farm reductions) across the world’s tropical forests, including in Brazil, Columbia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ecuador, Ghana, Guyana, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Thailand and Vietnam. Winrock is experienced in providing this service to some of the world’s best-known companies and front runners in supply chain climate mitigation efforts, such as Nestlé, McCormick, and Microsoft. For example, Winrock validated hundreds of impactful GHG emission reduction and removal projects (several of which were agroforestry projects) across Nestlé’s global supply chain.
Additionally, Winrock has deep knowledge and expertise in contributing thought leadership to voluntary standards and initiatives like the GHG Protocol, SBTi FLAG, VCMI, and Value Change Initiative, including updates to the GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Guidance. Winrock also has extensive experience providing technical support to carbon offset projects operating under Verra’s VM0047 (ARR), VM0042 (ALM), and VM0048 (REDD+) methodologies, as well as Gold Standard methodologies.

Winrock International is proud to support Nestlé’s science-based targets and broader net zero ambitions by providing technical advisory support to Nestlé’s procurement team and suppliers and validating supplier greenhouse gas reduction projects. These efforts are a crucial part of Nestlé’s strategy to decarbonize its Scope 3 supply chain emissions.
