A Film About Forests
We celebrate Earth Day with this video about Vietnam, where forests have a crucial new ally
Vietnam’s Payment for Forest Environmental Services (PFES) system, implemented by Winrock’s USAID Vietnam Forests and Deltas project, provides around $130 million a year to over 500,000 households for their work protecting the forest.
It supports the Government of Vietnam’s efforts to better manage natural resources through an innovative Payment for Forest Environmental Services (PFES) program, which pays forest owners for conservation. By preventing deforestation and forest degradation, PFES reduces emissions from land use and conserves forest ecosystems that remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
It helps money flow from hydroelectric plant owners and other downstream users of environmental services into the hands of people who live in and near forests and have vowed to protect them. For more on these people and their stories, click here.
