Funded by the Global Environment Facility and carried out in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the Net Zero Adaptation Finance project, led by Winrock International, aims to integrate climate change adaptation into net-zero carbon projects. The project focuses on the agriculture, forestry and other land use sector, known as AFOLU. It is designed to support the development and implementation of AFOLU projects, particularly in least developed countries. These countries rely heavily on AFOLU for their development but have historically received little financing for climate adaptation.
The project will create a screening tool, based on Winrock’s WinRes platform, to identify ways climate adaptation can be built into carbon reduction projects. The tool is expected to help projects both reduce climate risks and increase adaptation benefits. To encourage adoption, especially in the AFOLU sector in LDCs, the project will provide blended financing to offset costs and reduce risks. It will also produce best-practice reports to inform continuous adaptation and improvement and guide future projects and scaling strategies.
