Volunteer with Winrock
Winrock’s West Africa F2F Program leverages the expertise of skilled volunteers to strengthen agricultural institutions in West Africa, thus equipping a new generation of agriculture educators, technicians, farmers, and agribusinesses to address evolving agricultural sector challenges.
Volunteer assignments will contribute towards addressing critical needs – such as reducing poverty, providing essential services and technologies to smallholders, and educating young women and men for meaningful and productive work. Overseas assignments last from two to six weeks. Volunteers must meet basic qualifications for the assignment.

Diversity & Inclusion Initiative
Winrock International is excited to implement a Farmer-to-Farmer Diversity and Inclusion pilot. USAID’s Bureau for Resilience and Food Security’s Diversity & Inclusion Council is partnering with Winrock to increase diversity and inclusion in the USAID Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) program, which focuses on creating cross-cultural connections and promoting sustainable improvements in agriculture and food security globally.
The U.S. is known for its diverse mix of people, talents, skillsets, and experiences. F2F wants to fully celebrate that diversity and initiate efforts to engage new volunteers who truly represent the diverse cross-sections of the country. This includes leaders and skilled individuals within historically marginalized communities and communities of color. This initiative will increase outreach to and partnership with Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) led and affiliated organizations, minority-serving institutions (MSIs), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), diaspora organizations, and others.
Winrock will match new volunteers with a representative from our diverse pool of experienced Volunteer Champions and Mentors. These mentors – representatives of MSIs or historically under-represented groups themselves – will serve as a resource for new volunteers as they undertake a first-time experience volunteering abroad or conducting a virtual assignment with participants on the other side of the world. Since we know that our veteran volunteers are the best proponents of F2F, we look forward to the unique connections that they will foster on behalf of this important initiative.
Anticipated outcomes of the Diversity & Inclusion Initiative include:
- Expanded recruitment base and productive connections within the F2F program;
- New partnerships with MSIs, HBCUs, and BIPOC and AAPI led and affiliated organizations;
- Increased volunteer participation of skilled and diverse technical experts from BIPOC and historically under-represented groups; and
- Public outreach to a diverse set of stakeholders on partnership and work of volunteers.
