Harvest and Post-Harvest Handling

Winrock International seeks a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer for a 17-day assignment to lead training on harvest and post-harvest handling of agricultural products in Keur Maba Diakhou, Kaolack Region, Senegal. The volunteer will work closely with the Cooperative Society of Seeds and Local Cereals Producers to train members in best practices for harvesting and post-harvest handling of cereals (such as millet, maize, and sorghum), legumes (such as groundnuts), and horticultural products. The goal is to reduce post-harvest losses and build climate resilience, thereby increasing agricultural productivity and improving farmers’ living conditions.

Responsibilities:

· Lead training sessions on adequate harvest and post-harvest handling techniques.

· Focus on reducing post-harvest losses to improve production and productivity.

· Educate participants on using appropriate harvesting methods, materials, and equipment.

· Support the cooperative’s mission to promote food self-sufficiency, combat poverty, and ensure a healthy and diverse diet.

Qualifications:

· Minimum of 5 years’ experience in harvesting and post-harvest handling of cereals and vegetables.

· Experience with efficient storage equipment for cereals, fruits, and vegetables.

· Background in contracts and market research orientations.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· French language skills preferred but not mandatory.
