Organic Farming Techniques

Winrock International is seeking a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer for a 17-day assignment to train the women of EIG Kambin in Tacoudiala, Senegal. This training will focus on sustainable, climate-smart practices to improve pest, disease, and weed management, as well as nursery setup, soil preparation, and regeneration techniques. The volunteer will guide participants in effective transplanting methods, water management strategies, and the environmental benefits of organic farming. Additionally, the training will introduce income-generating activities, such as compost production and biopesticide-making, to enhance the group’s agricultural productivity and financial resilience.

Responsibilities:

·       Lead training sessions on integrated pest, disease, and weed management.

·       Teach nursery setup, efficient space use, and soil preparation and regeneration techniques.

·       Instruct on transplanting seedlings and effective water management practices.

·       Highlight the advantages of climate-smart, organic farming practices.

·       Introduce and develop income-generating activities, such as compost-making and biopesticide formulation.

Qualifications:

·       Master’s degree or higher in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field.

·       Proven experience in agricultural education and training, particularly in horticulture and organic farming.

·       Experience working in tropical, developing regions is preferred.

·       Background in adult education and practical training methods in organic farming.

·       French language skills are preferred but not mandatory.
