Soil Management and Market Gardening Training
Location: Kissidougou, Guinea Forest
Assignment Number: GUI316
Volunteers Requested: 1
Recruiter: Jennifer Robinson | Jennifer.Robinson@winrock.org |
Winrock International is
seeking the support of a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer for a 17-day assignment
(including travel) in Kissidougou, Guinea Forest. The volunteer will train
members of the BENDA WANAWAA group on foundational soil management techniques
to help them master new methods that intensify beneficial biological processes.
The training will cover technical procedures and soil preparation for market
gardening on living soil, management of agricultural soil fertility, and the
environmental and economic impacts of these practices. It will also introduce
biological processes that influence soil fertility. The BENDA WANAWAA members
are particularly interested in crops such as chili peppers, tomatoes,
eggplants, okra, corn, and watermelon.
Due to the high cost of imported seeds, host
community members have turned to seed recycling to reduce production expenses.
Recently, Winrock F2F trained this group on improved seed production using
local varieties, equipping them with skills in seed conservation,
multiplication, and quality control.
This new technical gardening training will
enrich the soil and preserve its quality over time, enabling increased local
production.
