Drip Irrigation System

Location: Diourbel, Senegal

Assignment Number: SEN386

Volunteers Requested: 1

Recruiter: Jennifer Robinson | Jennifer.Robinson@winrock.org |

Winrock International is seeking a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer for a 17-day assignment in Diourbel, Senegal, to make a meaningful impact on the Diourbel Vocational Training Center (DVTC) teaching curricula and skill development. This opportunity focuses on training in drip irrigation systems to enhance horticultural production and developing a formal curriculum that trainers can use in future courses, preparing students for the job market or application on their plots.

The volunteer’s primary tasks will include training the center’s trainers and students on installing, operating, and maintaining drip irrigation systems, covering components, functionality, and maintenance. Additionally, the assignment involves strengthening trainers’ and students’ skills in advanced irrigation techniques to optimize water use for horticultural production. A critical outcome will be the development of a draft syllabus or curriculum on drip irrigation that the center can use in its future training programs, benefiting students and community members alike.

The volunteer should have the following qualifications and background:

·       Degree in irrigation system management, water management, agriculture, or other relevant topics specializing in drip irrigation and water use efficiency.

·       Background on raw materials usually adapted in tropical areas.

·       Experience and skills in the Competency-Based Approach (CBA) or other similar educational methodologies/approaches.

·       Experience in teaching and training adults and youth.

·       French skills are desirable but not mandatory; translation will be provided as needed.
