Maintenance of Agricultural Equipment for Horticulture Production

Location: Keur Momar Sarr, Louga, Senegal

Assignment Number: SEN387

Volunteers Requested: 1

Recruiter: Jennifer Robinson | Jennifer.Robinson@winrock.org |

Winrock International is seeking a Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) volunteer to make a substantial impact on the Community Agricultural Domain of Keur Momar Sarr (DAC KMS) through a 17-day assignment. This unique opportunity involves building the capacity of DAC KMS staff, extension agents, and community members, as well as developing a structured syllabus and comprehensive training materials for future training sessions. The volunteer will focus on enhancing skills in agricultural equipment maintenance, specifically for plows, sprayers, rototillers, and tractors.

This assignment is designed to improve the operational efficiency and sustainability of agricultural practices within DAC KMS, equipping local trainers and Agriculture Entrepreneur Groups with essential knowledge in equipment use and upkeep. By increasing the staff’s technical skills, the volunteer will empower the community to maintain and repair equipment, thereby ensuring continued productivity and resilience to climate change. Upon completion, DAC KMS staff and community members will possess a stronger foundation in agricultural mechanization, enabling them to pass on valuable skills to local farmers and ultimately enhancing resilience to climate variability.

The volunteer should have the following qualifications and background:

·       Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Agriculture and Technology, or other similar degrees.

·       Proven experience in using, maintaining, and repairing agricultural machinery.

·       Background on machines used in developing countries, mostly India, Israel, and China.

·       Prior experience working with farmers’ associations, preferably in a developing country.

·       Experience and background teaching or training adults; understanding of modern adult education pedagogy preferred.

·       French language is desired but not mandatory. F2F will provide a translator as needed.
