Fish Feed Formulation and Production Techniques
Location: Séfa, Sédhiou region, Southern Senegal
Assignment Number: SEN392
Volunteers Requested: 1
Recruiter: Jennifer Robinson | Jennifer.Robinson@winrock.org |
Winrock International is
seeking a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer for an 18-day assignment in Séfa, Sédhiou
region, Southern Senegal. The volunteer will develop training materials and
build the capacity of staff at the Community Agricultural Domain (DAC) of Séfa
on fish feed formulation and production techniques using locally available
agricultural products.
The DAC currently operates
aquaculture ponds and produces fish; however, high feed costs significantly
reduce profit margins. This assignment addresses their request for training in
fish feed formulation and production to improve the quality and quantity of
fish for both local and external markets. Additionally, DAC collaborates with
women’s groups and individual producers to empower community members with
skills for income generation and improved living standards.
The DAC of Séfa aims to
meet market demand and provide its staff with an additional income source,
recognizing the fishing subsector’s high market potential. Staff will leverage
the training and materials to support new business initiatives.
The volunteer will travel
through The Gambia to reach the Sédhiou region, which will require stopping at
the border for entry controls.
