Training In Effective Marketing Techniques for Selling Honey

Location: Labé, Guinea

Assignment Number: GUI324

Volunteers Requested: 1

Recruiter: Jennifer Robinson | Jennifer.Robinson@winrock.org |

Winrock International is seeking a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer for a 15-day assignment (including travel) in Labé, Guinea. The volunteer will train members of the Beekeepers Federation in Guinea (FAPI Guinea) on effective marketing techniques for selling honey in local and international markets. Additionally, the training will help participants better understand how to provide community services that generate higher returns. This training will equip FAPI members with the skills and knowledge to develop suitable marketing strategies, fostering growth in Guinea’s apiculture sector.

The host organization previously received training on queen bee rearing, which improved its ability to multiply hives and bee colonies. However, a critical need is now to enhance its understanding of marketing concepts. Developing an effective marketing strategy for its products and services is essential to meeting the demands of both local and national markets.

FAPI is experiencing increased demand for honey and growing interest from individuals wanting to start apiculture businesses. FAPI members aim to enhance their marketing strategies to meet this demand, focusing on honey and beeswax sales, pricing, packaging, and promotion. Strengthening these areas will improve the competitiveness of their products at local and national levels, driving business growth.

The volunteer should have the following qualifications and background:

·       A minimum of 10 years of experience in the agricultural sector, preferably focusing on horticulture production, processing, or marketing, would be highly advantageous.

·       Experience developing marketing strategies for local and international markets.

·       Knowledge of pricing, packaging, promotion, and sales strategies for value-added products like honey and beeswax.

·       Experience with small business development or entrepreneurship is a plus.

·       Ability to train and work with small-scale producers or cooperatives.

·       Strong communication and training skills, including adapting materials and methods for diverse audiences.

·       Experience working in developing countries or with rural communities.

·       Familiarity with community service models that enhance profitability and sustainability.

·       Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to local contexts.

·       Fluency in French is preferred but not required, as a translator will be provided if necessary.
