Training in Organic Production Techniques

Location: N’Zérékoré, Guinea

Assignment Number: GUI325

Volunteers Requested: 1

Recruiter: Jennifer Robinson | Jennifer.Robinson@winrock.org |

Winrock International is seeking a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer for a 17-day assignment (including travel) in N’Zérékoré, Guinea. The volunteer will conduct training on organic production techniques for the technical staff and executive board members of the Regional Federation of Palm Oil and Rubber Producers (FEREPPAH).

This training aims to equip participants with knowledge and skills in organic agriculture. This integrated production management system promotes the health of agroecosystems, including biodiversity, biological cycles, and soil biological activity. The training will focus on the use of natural inputs (e.g., minerals, and plant-based products) while eliminating synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.

FEREPPAH traditionally provides extension services to small family farmers and small organizations. It finances its activities through membership fees and donations from international agricultural development organizations, aiming to improve service quality and increase agricultural productivity for its members. However, FEREPPAH has identified a need for technical expertise in organic agriculture to foster healthy production dynamics and regenerative cultivation practices among its members.

By developing this expertise, members will be better equipped to cultivate oil palms sustainably, reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers and re-creating favorable conditions for production using organic methods.

FEREPPAH is seeking a volunteer to deliver this critical training in Forest Guinea. The training aims to build organizational capacity in organic agriculture while enhancing members’ entrepreneurial skills to seize new opportunities and address challenges effectively in the agricultural sector.

The ideal volunteer for this assignment should have the following qualifications and background:

Qualifications and Background for the Ideal Volunteer:

·       A bachelor’s degree or higher in Organic Agriculture, Food Systems, or a related field.

·       Strong management skills and a solid understanding of environmental principles.

·       Ability to adapt strategies to address emerging challenges and opportunities in the agriculture sector, including climate change adaptation and market diversification.

·       Expertise in providing technological and methodological support for organic farming projects.

·       Knowledge of the organic certification process and familiarity with the oil palm sector are a plus.

·       Excellent written and oral communication skills.

·       French language skills are preferred but not required; interpreters will be provided.

·       Physical ability to travel to the host site, located approximately 354 miles (570 km) southeast of Conakry, Guinea’s capital.
