Preventing child labor by opening up educational opportunities and helping Nike in its reforestation efforts characterize Winrock’s current work in Brazil. Since the 1990s, however, we have been extremely active in partnering with government and community leaders to develop effective strategies to combat deforestation and the greenhouse gas emissions that accompany forest loss. This has included providing monitoring and other technical support to Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) programs. Additionally, Winrock has worked to expand the availability and demand for renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, including the use of renewable energy to improve water infrastructure projects.
