Thailand
Winrock’s history in Thailand stretches deep to the roots of the organization, when 60 students from the Southeast Asian country were awarded graduate-level fellowships by the Agricultural Development Council — founded by John D. Rockefeller 3RD in 1954. In 2005, JDRIII scholars worked on a project that explored how rural community members could be compensated for protecting the environment — for example, keeping forest watersheds clean. Over the past few decades, Winrock has partnered with farmers, communities, businesses and the public sector on sustainable agriculture, reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the forestry and land-use sector, and other initiatives.
