Priming the Pump for Investment in Community Solar Water Pumps in Ethiopia

Project Title: Demonstrating A Scalable Revenue Model for Community Solar Water Pumping in Ethiopia

Working in 10 pilot communities in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, the project will facilitate local private developers to replace existing diesel-fueled community water pumps with solar-powered pumps. The goal is to demonstrate a revenue model that encourages private developers to invest in cleaner power systems in this sector, and to lay the groundwork for scaling-up installation of solar-powered water pumps to 100 communities during the project’s second phase.
