Leadership and Organizational Development

Location: Benkama Agricultural Cooperative in Siguiri – Guinea

Assignment Number: GUI308

Volunteers Requested: 1

Recruiter: Jennifer Robinson | Jennifer.Robinson@winrock.org |

Winrock International requests the support of a Farmer-to-Farmer volunteer for a 17 day volunteer assignment (including travel) located in Benkama Agricultural Cooperative in Siguiri – Guinea (Coopérative Agricole Benkama de Siguiri in French). The volunteer will train the host on leadership and organizational development techniques that are adapted to the local context to enable leaders of these associations to manage effectively and provide members the knowledge they need to contribute successfully to Cooperative objectives. Better leadership and organization will allow for improved monitoring and support for member activities and enable them to improve horticultural production, sales and incomes. The volunteer should also introduce methods for improving the Cooperative’s organizational structure to align with farming as a business, delegation of responsibility and developing strategic plans for the growth of the association.

After completing this assignment, we believe the host will have acquired essential skills in leadership and organizational development that are tailored specifically to its unique context. This newfound proficiency will empower them to efficiently manage their cooperative and steer members towards shared goals. Consequently, we expect an improvement in the organization’s operations. Improved management systems will enable better monitoring of member activities and foster greater accountability. For instance, leaders within each group and union will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient utilization of resources, thereby maximizing outcomes in horticulture production, sales, and income generation for themselves and their families.

The volunteer should have the following qualifications and background:

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in agribusiness, business administration or related field.

• 10 years of experience in developing/managing or providing similar training to agro-based association, cooperatives, NGOs as well as working with groups to achieve their short- to long-term goals.

• Knowledge of group dynamics, expertise in processes for organizational success, conflict resolution skills, and experience negotiating with outside partners and clients.

• Previous experience adapting and implementing leadership and/or gender equity trainings based upon established technical curriculum.

• Experience in training farmers as well as prior experience in West Africa is desired.

• French language skills are preferred, but a translator can be provided.
