Micro gardening Techniques

Winrock International is seeking a skilled volunteer for a 17-day assignment to lead practical micro-gardening training sessions for the EIG Bokk Jom members in Kaolack, Senegal. The volunteer will train the EIG women on using appropriate, available, and cost-effective materials to establish a micro-garden. The training sessions will ensure that sustainable and environmentally friendly practices are taught and convey natural techniques leading to healthy products and soil enrichment.

The volunteer will provide theoretical and practical application training on different subjects, including organization, functioning, and usefulness of micro gardens, preparation of the growing boxes, growing tables, preparation of the solid substrate, cleaning, dosage, and mixing of the components, techniques of setting in a nursery, seeding, transplanting, spacing of the plants, fertilization of crops on a solid substrate, and composting. The volunteer will also lead hands-on training on making bio-pesticides based on the different ingredients available in the area.

The volunteer should have the following qualifications and background:

·       Master’s degree or higher in agriculture, agronomy, agricultural education, and training, or similar fields.

·       Experience in the field of horticulture and knowledge and practice of micro gardening

·       Background on crops applicable in micro gardens in tropical regions.

·       Ability to share skills on liquid composting for micro gardening.

·       Share different techniques and materials to prepare the substrate for the table.

·       Ability to work with a local volunteer to train women.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·       French language skills preferred but not mandatory.
