Pineapple Production Training

Location: Kissidougou, Guinea

Assignment Number: GUI321

Volunteers Requested: 1

Recruiter: Jennifer Robinson | Jennifer.Robinson@winrock.org |

Winrock International is seeking a Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) volunteer for a 17-day assignment (including travel) in Kissidougou, Guinea. The volunteer will train Union des Producteurs d’Ananas et de Gingembre de Kissidougou (UPAG-K) members on organic pineapple production, using locally available organic materials to produce high-quality pineapples with high sugar content. Situated in Guinea’s forest region, Kissidougou offers ideal conditions for pineapple cultivation, and this training will support the organization’s focus on sustainable organic production.

Guinea has immense agricultural potential. Agriculture contributes 20% of GDP and serves as the primary livelihood for 80% of the rural population. The pineapple sector, in particular, has gained renewed interest from national authorities and agricultural development stakeholders due to its potential to generate income and create jobs.

The volunteer will:

·       Train participants on biodiversity conservation in agricultural fields and surrounding environments.

·       Demonstrate organic farming practices that prevent the spreading of diseases and pests, safeguarding crop yields.

·       Introduce crop diversification and profitability strategies, including systematic crop rotation with crops like corn, cassava, and beans.

·       Develop a training manual and PowerPoint presentation on producing bio-agricultural products, with a specific focus on organic pineapples.

The ideal volunteer for this assignment should have the following qualifications and background:

·       University degree in agriculture or master’s degree in agricultural, food and environmental science and technology, environmental bioengineering, or a similar field.

·       French language skills are a plus, but translation will be provided as needed.

·       Experience in training and imparting practical knowledge to adults.

·       Ability to travel approximately 600 km to Conakry by project vehicle.
