A Letter from the President
I wish I could write in this preface that 2021 was a “post-disaster” year, but the reality was – and yet remains – something else. For two years running, Winrock’s work around the world has unfolded against the backdrop of a pandemic of definitively disastrous proportions. In response, Winrock’s teams in the U.S. and abroad redoubled our efforts to expand, adapt and build new relationships with the communities, governments, and companies with whom we partner. Our goal is to facilitate and lead changemaking collaborations that create the physical, social, environmental and economic conditions that contribute to resilience and lead toward recovery. There’s no other path forward.
We’re pleased to present a broad range of organizational indicators that cumulatively provide a sense of the scale of our work and impact around the world. We believe in science and in openly sharing and accurately reporting data. To that end, we invite you to explore the numbers and navigate the map and geo-linked stories. You will see groundbreaking work in carbon reduction and climate change adaptation and mitigation, in ecosystem services protection and natural resources management, in human rights and education, and in support of sustainable agriculture, livelihoods and water security systems. You’ll also see the incredible work of our U.S. Programs team, which is helping rural communities by supporting efforts to extend broadband infrastructure, providing business support services and making new financing opportunities available to historically disenfranchised small business owners across the American South.
The sum of all this work, I believe, is improved resilience and increased ability to repair our communities and to recover and rebuild better. I’m proud of Winrockers – and continually inspired by the contributions and impact our teammates make each day across so many time zones.
