USAID Kyrgyz Republic features: “Resilience and Triumph: The Inspiring Journey of a Survivor”

The USAID Safe Migration in Central Asia activity, which aims to strengthen the mutual accountability of governments, NGOs and the private sector to prevent trafficking in persons, protect survivors, and promote safe migration, is featured in an article published by USAID Kyrgyz Republic.

“Resilience and Triumph: The Inspiring Journey of a Survivor” shares the story of Kanykei (name changed), who received assistance through the SMICA project implemented by Winrock International.

Kanykei ended up in a crisis center in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek, after she escaped a harmful arranged marriage. She was referred to the Oasis Foundation where she received comprehensive support, including psychological assistance, enabling her to obtain employment and return to school to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.

“I sometimes have days when I become very sad and give up. At these moments, I always come to my cozy oasis to talk with Meerim or Zhibek. They always give hope and strength. I know that I’m not alone… I’m no longer afraid to look into the future,” Kanykei said.
