Solomon Islands

Uncontrolled logging is decimating forests in the Solomon Islands, a small nation in the South Pacific Ocean. Winrock has worked on the most populous island in the archipelago, Malaita, helping to build mutually accountable partnerships to protect its valuable forest resources. In partnership with communities, provincial government, and others, Winrock works to strengthen local conservation economies, provide viable and sustainable livelihood alternatives to logging, build awareness of land tenure rights, and strengthen the regulatory environment for forest monitoring and enforcement. Winrock also supports community-based organizations to build alliances in other provinces to enable learning exchange and scale successful models.
