Elisa Derby

Elisa Derby is a household energy expert with more than a decade of experience in the cookstoves sector. She manages Winrock’s household energy and health programs, with projects and partnerships that reduce fuel use and exposure to household air pollution — providing technical support, strategic planning, implementation and budget management. Her work incorporates field-based capacity building, formative research, network building, knowledge dissemination, grants management and direct-implementation activities funded primarily through USAID, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the World Bank. Derby is the household energy and household air pollution specialist for the USAID-funded WASHplus project and manages EPA-funded household energy capacity building work held around the world. She has co-authored several peer-reviewed journal articles and testified at the Legislative Hearing on H.R. 4255, the “Accountability in Grants Act of 2012,” on Winrock’s EPA-funded cookstoves work. Internationally, she represents the U.S. as a member of the International Standards Organization Technical Advisory Group/Technical Committee 285 on Clean Cookstoves and Clean Cooking Solutions, and is a regular presenter and moderator at global household energy fora. Derby holds a master’s from the Energy and Resources Group at UC Berkeley.
